Forum Index Duelist [3.8] RECKONING (Counterattack) Gladiator Build. Let them kill themselves! UBER ~2 min! BOSSES AFK

History

Just let them kill themselves! No need to press anything, not even the flasks!
This is probably the craziest build i've done during the Legion. Expected to be a meme, but turned out to be super strong against everything.
Reckoning has been there for a while, but it has never been as strong as it is now, with all melee and accuracy as well as flat damage buffs.
COUNTERATTACKS KILLING THINGS AND NOT A MEME ANYMORE ;)

3.8: OK to clarify for EVERYONE: The build still works, and even though it's definitely nerfed. The damage went from 4.6 million in pob to 1.3x2=2.6 million.
Still does the job, just not one-shotting guardians anymore lol. I did Phoenix and he still killed himself in about 10 seconds.

How does it work, in general?

You need to get hit!
Surrender shield gives level 30 Reckoning on an effective 4L. With current powercreep, Level 30 Reckoning equals to just ~10 less damage if compared to a full 6L Reckoning. So we can use a 6L something else and it's.... Cyclone. Cyclone does less damage, but still A LOT and more than enough to proc most content such as Legion, give Fortify, stack Rage and provide necessary movement to avoid danger.
======================================================================================
1) PROS

Spoiler

+Insanely tanky
+High damage against everything
+Fast enough for mapping
+Can do anything
+Great league starter
+Super cheap (Facebreaker 1 alch, Shield = 40-100c and you are done)
+Even if both impale and cyclone will be nerfed it has no impact whatsoever.
+can do Hall of the Grandmasters (one of the VERY FEW builds that can!)

======================================================================================
2) CONS
Spoiler

-Very small cyclone aoe, because this is not really a Cyclone build and it's UNARMED build as well.
-Need to watch chaos damage from time to time

======================================================================================
3) Skill Tree Progression / Path of Building / Ascendancy / Bandits
Spoiler
Path of building:
End-game Setup with levelling trees up to 94: https://pastebin.com/KAPWqufU
For Ascendancy: Painforged, Versatile Combatant, Vilent Retaliation, Arena Challenger
Bandits: Kill All

======================================================================================
4) Early Levelling Gear / Skills
Spoiler

In current state of the game you can level with whatever skill you want: Cleave, Sweep, Sunder,Perforate. I personally used Perforate:
Perforate-Chance to Bleed-Onslaught-Ruthless
Add Ancestral Warchief/Protector, Herald of Ash, Precision, Blood Rage, Blood and Sand with Sand Stance for AOE. Tempest Shield on manual cast for block.
As you go, add Vengeance, Reckoning and Riposte in a 3L with something like Melee Phys Damage.
At about level 12 you can switch from Perforate to Infernal Blow if you wish
Then go till 28, where you can go Cyclone (or Tectonic Slam/Ice Crash)
6L with Tabula: Cyclone - Melee.phys - Added Fire - Impale - Ruthless - Maim
----
In terms of gear there are plenty of good swords and maces that can be used:

    ------------------------------------------
    3L Reckoning in Shield: Brutality-Pulverize-Melee.Phys
    6L Cyclone: Cyclone-Melee.Physical.Damage-Brutality-Rage-Fortify-Impale
5L Cyclone: Cyclone-Melee.Physical.Damage-Brutality-Rage-Impale (can use Shield Charge or Slam to get Fortify)
For bosses switch Sand Stance to Blood Stance.
For the gear i would prioritize:
    1) Tabula Rasa and any levelling gear (Araku Tiki, 2x Blackheart , 2x Brightbeak, Goldrim, Tabula, Wonderlust, Lochtonial Caress)
    2) lvl.7: Springleaf
    3) lvl.8: Wurms' Molt (will leech you mana and make cyclone FREE)
    4) lvl.11: Lycosidae (would be OP if you can get it early on!)
    5) lvl.23: Peregrine
    6) lvl.24: Facebreaker (can still go on with the weapons if you wish)
    7) lvl.25: Prismweave (drop it when you get Brutality and go full phys)
    8) lvl.28: Wake of Destruction , Rigwald's Curse
    9) lvl.33: Deibell/Deidbellow
    10) lvl.44: Redblade Tramplers
    11) lvl.58: Craiceann's Chitin
    11) lvl.64: Surrender (this is when you can go FULL Facebreaker and full phys as well as drop Vengeance entirely, Ripose can still be used)

    FAQ
    1) What is the best base for a chest?
    Spoiler

item level 86+ Elder Astral Plate

    2) How can i craft Maim + Attacks have Critical Strike Chance?
    Spoiler

Pristine + Serrated Fossil (+ sanctified if you are super rich)

    3) I tried using these fossils and never got Crit Chance!
    Spoiler

Check if your chest is ELDER or not. Crit is an ELDER mod.

    4) Can i get Maim in any other way other than fossils??
    Spoiler
    No

    5) I can't for the life of me get Maim + Crit! I've spent million of fossils!
    Spoiler
    RNG

    6) How can i kill Atziri?
    Spoiler
It is indeed tricky and DEFINITELY not recommended on hardcore. You will die to reflect here because damage is high. Reflected damage can be blocked but in this case you don't trigger a counterattack, so you still need to get hit a lot to proc Reckoning. I tried it with and WITHOUT the abyssus and WITH the abyssus it was faster.

    7) I see you are spinning infinitely, how can i reduce my Cyclone mana cost next to none?
    Spoiler

This is a little tricky. First you will be playing with Wurm's Molt belt which leeches mana with attack damage. Next when you unlock tier 2 "reduced mana cost"(tier 3 takes a while and is NOT NEEDED) betrayal mod you will craft it on a ring and your Cyclone cost will go down from 9 to 7. You will still have 2 mana cost and when you drop the Wurm's Molt you will slowly but steadily loose your mana anyway.
Next and final step is to get reduced mana cost on the tree:

By getting the FIRST node you immidiately drop mana cost from 2 to 1 and can naturally OUTregenerate the cost.

This is really intresting build :)

Intresting if this could go in to low red maps/ulab without Surrender and with rare weapons.Based on my expirience Surrender/Rigwald, Mark of Shaper are not league starter items.

Cheers and thank you for funny non meta build :)

Rigwald is pretty common and cheap and Surrender drops from Uul Netol breach which are plenty too (especially with dirt cheap breach scarabs). But yeah it will definitely take time before these start to appear massively as FUNGUS SPREADS ACROSS WRAECLAST :D

Hey Angry_Roleplayer, thanks for the build!

I started looking into it and I have one question (for now):

In a 5L/6L, why use 'Rage' instead of (lets say...) 'Pulverise'?

I mean if we don't use weapons (because of Facebreakers), then 'rage' has no benefit except if the whole purpose of using it, is what we get with 20% quality, which gives us "Supported Skills deal 10% increased Attack Damage". Is that the reason why we use 'Rage' over 'Pulverise'?

the main reason to use Rage Support is to generate Rage for Reckoning.
Pulverize does nothing for Reckoning if linked to Cyclone. and you need to gain rage in some way

Ok, thanks for a quick reply.

    2 new questions:

    Q1:
For a chest you said ELDER iLVL 86+ Astral Plate

I checked at PoEDB and it sais that to get higher values of: 'attacks have +#% to critical strike chance' iLVL 84+ is required. So, is iLVL 84 ok, or there is a mod that require a chest to be iLVL 86?

    Q2:
Also, same site (PoEDB) state that the 'Pristine Fossil' can give:

    -------
    +(25–40) to maximum Life
    (3–5)% increased maximum Life
    -------

So I wonder how to achieve 100+ to max life? Maybe 'Sanctified Fossil' helped with that?

    EDIT:
oh, I figured Q2. The reason for high value of '+# to max life' is because you have another mode that came from iLVL 86 item which is "Prime 86 +(120–129) to maximum Life ". Its 'merged' with the hybrid life mode that came from 'Sanctified Fossil'.

I guess that also answers the Q1 about why you suggesting iLVL 86 instead of lower iLVL (like 84). Correct?

Correct. 86 will give you the highest life roll possible
