Forum Index Duelist [3.8] Demi's FlyingPurplePeople Cyclone/Bladestorm/Earthquake/Ice Crash Slayer Guide

History

IF YOU PLAY ONE OF MY BUILDS, PLEASE SHOWCASE YOUR CHARACTER'S GEAR IN THIS THREAD FOR OTHERS TO SEE AND LEARN FROM <3

If you have any questions about the build, check the guide or read a few pages of questions and answers. Most likely it's already been answered by myself or someone else. If you still can't find it, join my Discord and ask in the Help Desk channel or come visit me on stream.

Please do not PM me ingame or on the forums with build guide questions. All of your answers can be found here.

3.8 Blight Changes: Cyclone was toned down slightly (expected) and the skill trees received some minor changes. Otherwise, the builds are the same.

3.7 Legion Changes:
Slayer has received some serious buffs, especially for boss fighting. Impale got buffed to hell, Cyclone has been made a Channeling skill and feels amazingly smooth, and all other melee skills have been buffed. The bottom part of the skill tree has been beefed up pretty heavily as well.

I've gone ahead and updated the guide to be slightly more specialized, focusing on 4 seperate skills. Cyclone, Bladestorm, Earthquake, and Ice Crash.

HOW TO MAKE ANY BUILD BUDGET INCLUDING THIS ONE:

    >>>>>>>>> https://youtu.be/ru1egx98ad0 <<<<<<<<<<

    _________________________________________________________________

    So let's begin.

DO YOU LIKE BEING PURPLE? DO YOU ENJOY LEECHING TOO MUCH LIFE AND NOT GIVING A SINGULAR H*CK?! HOW ABOUT HAVING 8K+ LIFE WITHOUT KAOMS OR BELLY?!?!?!

WHAT ABOUT CUTTING THINGS INto PIECES? SMASHING THEM? SPINNING LIKE A TOP??

IF ANSWER = YES, THEN THIS BUILD IS FOR YOU!

Q: Why *insert skill* instead of *insert other skill*?

A: It really just comes down to preference. This guide should work with all 2H Melee skills. Experiment yourselves with the options I've given and find what works best for you. My personal favorites as of 3.7 are Ice Crash, Cyclone, Earthquake and Bladestorm.

LIST OF OTHER SKILLS YOU CAN USE:

A: ANY OTHER AOE 2H MELEE SKILLS. WE FOCUS ON 2 HANDED MELEE. RESOLUTE TECHNIQUE FOR LIFE.

Q: Why the h*ck would I use that? Isn't (insert meta melee skill here) better?

A: WHO KNOWS, THIS ONE'S PURPLE AND COOL SO YOU SHOULD DO IT

Q: How did you get so much life?

    A. ALL THE LIFE NODES, ALL THE STRENGTH, MAX LIFE ON GEAR AND JEWELS!

    FULLY BUFFED TOOLTIPS:
    Ice Crash:

    Earthquake:

    Generic Cyclone:

    Impale Bladestorm:

And my personal favorite, Impale Cyclone:

Remember, impale is 112% more physical damage and doesn't show up in tooltips (yet).

    Path of Building Pastebin:
    Spoiler
Just import any of these Pastbins into Path of Building:

    Impale Cyclone: https://pastebin.com/fPNP6HtW

    Ice Crash: https://pastebin.com/WYqpkgLq
    Impale Bladestorm: https://pastebin.com/tjcdUKAA
    Generic Cyclone: https://pastebin.com/qPmzGmDi

Remember, you can go Sword/Mace, even Staves if you want. Just swap the axe wheels on the tree to your weapon choice. It really comes down to preference and what you can afford. Any 350-450+ Physical DPS Two Hander should be able to complete the entire game, if you follow the guide correctly.

Options off the top of my head: Ice Crash, Tectonic Strike, Sweep, Infernal Blow, Heavy Strike, Wild Strike, Elemental Hit, Frenzy, Frost Blades, Cleave, Double Strike, Dual Strike, Glacial Hammer, Ground Slam, Lightning Strike, Molten Strike, Puncture, Static Strike, and Viper Strike. Avoid using Elemental Conversion skills with Starforge, otherwise have fun!

    LEVELING GUIDE:
    Spoiler
Start as Duelist, pick up/buy the best weapons you can get and level with basically any melee skill you want. Specialize into the endgame skills as you get further through the acts.

As for where to allocate your skill points, I tend to just grab whatever I feel like I need while leveling. If my damage sucks, I grab damage clusters or upgrade my weapon. If I don't feel comfortable with my life total, I get more life nodes/upgrade my life on gear. If you're lacking Intelligence/Dexterity randomly, don't be afraid to pick up a +30 node and respec out of it later once you have the gear available.

    Weapon Choices:

Choose the highest Physical DPS you can find for your current level, these uniques should be cheap as h*ck all of the time. Or just use the best rare you can find while leveling.

    Ascendancy Points:
    Spoiler
    Normal Labyrinth: Headsman
This will beef up your single target against the Act bosses and open the next choice up.

    Cruel Labyrinth: Bane of Legends
Slayer gets a super-Cull, 20% instead of 10. We also get a bunch of attack and movement speed to help assist clearspeed while leveling.

    Merciless Labyrinth: Impact
Huge AOE buffs as well as another More damage multiplier while running.

    Uber Labyrinth: Endless Hunger
This is our Slayer Quality of Life. Immunity to Bleed and Stuns while leeching, as well as free massive amounts of leech.

    _________________________________________________________________

    PANTHEON POINTS
    Spoiler
    Major Options:

This prevents a ton of damage as well as making us immune to bad RNG critical strike barrages from multiple hits. FeelsSafeMan.

Damage mitigation again but also a boost to our Slayer leech! Each time you have Blood Rage running (physical damage over time debuff) and you take a chunk of damage to proc our Immortal Call/Cast when Damage Taken setup (physical immunity for .4 seconds) then you proc this Pantheon for another 50% MORE LEECH PER SECOND!

    Minor:

I tend to only use this. Helps against all forms of attack enemies and is more mitigation!

    _________________________________________________________________

    Rare Gear Stat Priorities:
    Spoiler
Make sure you're always resistance capped and have enough stats to equip your gear first.

Weapon: Any 350-450+ Physical DPS weapon will do fine for most if not all content. Endgame (Red Tier Maps or Higher) you can aim for a 500-600+ Physical DPS Rare or something like Atziri's Disfavour/Starforge to get that bit of extra OOMPH. You can also look for a 400-600+ PDPS weapon with Socketed Gems are Supported by Level X Fortify for a pseudo 7-Link. Or be like me and self craft a 1000+ pdps Elder Vaal Axe ;) (PAIN BANE)

Unique alternatives: Kondo's Pride, Doomsower, Marohi Erqi, Panquetzaliztli, Geofri's Devotion, Tidebreaker, Kongor's Undying Rage.

    Helm: Rare with life/resists/stats.

Unique Alternatives: Devoto's if you want a ton of attack speed but no life.

Chest: Rare chest with % max life/flat life/physical damage taken as elemental and resists/strength. You can also look for a pseudo 7-link chest crafted with Serrated Fossils for -15 mana cost of socketed skills suffix or Socketed skills are Supported by level 1 Maim for extra damage.

Unique Alternatives: Belly of the Beast is a great starter endgame chest, as is Loreweave, Carcass Jack, or the new Daresso's Defiance.

Gloves: Rares with life/resists and maybe Essence of Insanity. Flat physical to attacks/attack speed/dex/int or attack leech if you need here as well.

Unique alternatives: Haemophilia for bleeding enemy pops, Wyrmsign for a pseudo 5L/Rampage, Null and Void for Rampage memes, Tombfist for Intimidate + Jewel Sockets.

Boots: Rares with as much life/resists as possible. If you're doing Uber Elder, Kaom's Roots are an option to ignore the slow s u c c. Movespeed is irrelevant (Unless you're playing Cyclone, then get it), as we use Leap Slam.

Belt: Stygian belt for a free jewel socket OR an Elder rare with LIFE RECOVERY. THIS IS A MORE MULTIPLIER FOR OUR OVERALL LEECH SPEED. Life/resists/str/attack speed during flask/melee damage/physical damage, elemental damage, pen while using a flask, whatever. All good.

Unique alternatives: Meginord's Girdle, Belt of the Deceiver for Intimidate (10% more damage), Headhunter (sucks lul)

Rings: Steels (Impale Variants) or Opal Rings (Elemental Variants) with Life/Physical damage to attacks, and then your normal resists/attack speed/str/whatever you need. Intelligence maybe. If you're struggling with mana costs, you can craft minus mana cost of skills on both rings as a prefix, or look for Incursion-modded items with 70+ mana and -6+ mana cost of skills.

Unique alternatives: Ming's Heart, Voidheart, Ventor's if you wanna bit of MF I guess, doesn't matter much. Pick whatever you like.

Amulet: Life/physical damage to attacks works as a starter. If you can get an Elder amulet with non-chaos as chaos/max life leech rate, great.

Unique Alternatives: Carnage Heart is fine for leveling, it's easily replaced by a good rare though. Daresso's Salute is insanely good for Cyclone.

    Endgame Gear:
    Spoiler
Try to keep in mind this is endgame potential. You want to aim for similar gear as you push higher and higher, but remember none of this is required to beat all content. If you're res-capped, have the stats you need, and are clearing maps just fine, then you're doing well.

    Best in Slot Enchantments:
    Spoiler

Helm: Cyclone Damage, Earthquake Duration, Ice Crash Physical Added as Cold, Bladestorm something once they add enchants lol.

    THE DEFENSE:
    Spoiler
This build has quite a few layers of defense. Fortify for 20% less damage taken from hits, that includes elemental hits. Our 75%+ elemental resists. Taste of Hate for less cold damage taken and that delicious physical mitigation. Basalt Flask for even more phys mitigation. Stibnite flask for some evasion boost as well as Blind (enemies struggle to hit us), and the 3k flat armour (which scales up to like 10k) from Lion's Roar. We also have constant Knockback to keep enemies at bay (thanks "melee"). I personally prefer CWDT Enfeeble as well, for another "enemies deal less damage, have less crit multi/chance, and have less change to hit" layer of safety. H*CK DYING, OK?!

  • My new Elder chest also gives me about 12% Physical Mitigation and a ton of life/resists. Pretty good :)

Our leech rate is insane. Normally, the maximum leech rate is 20% of maximum life per second. So 10k life would leech 2k per second. We have 9% Max Life Leech Rate from the skill tree, putting us at 29%.

    Jewels:
    Spoiler
Word of advice: Get whatever stats you are lacking first. These are just a guideline.

    Normal Jewel Stat Priority:
    1. Life
    2. Melee phys with Swords/2h Weapons/Melee Damage
    3. Attack Speed with Swords/2h Weapons
    4. Attack Speed/Attack and Cast Speed

    General Mapping Advice:
    Spoiler
Don't do cannot leech. You will die. Elemental Reflect is the same. We're good on Phys Reflect cause Slayer.

Less recovery is also annoying, as it reduces your leech rate per second.
If you want to do a curse map, just swap your Sin's Rebirth for a Curse Immunity something.

    Last remarks:
    Spoiler
Left-Click each skill on your bar and make sure to toggle Attack In Place. It'll save you a lot of headache with your character stepping forward instead of attacking or Leaping. ;)

Hell yes. PURPLE! Also I really hope you guys enjoy this build/template. Works really well for me and you can use any skill you prefer. My favorites are Ice Crash, Earthquake, Cyclone and Bladestorm.

should be fine, you'll lose dps though because not 100% poison on hit.

Would you recommend getting the legacy void heart or sins rebirth first?
