This is a work in progress, and it is my first build that I have ever attempted since BETA, yet I wanted to share it with the community because of the personal enjoyment it has brought me. This is not a META, FOTM, or anything that will probably interest people looking for overpowered endgame content clearing builds, it's simply a build designed for personal enjoyment and is somewhat endgame viable, as I haven't had the chance to test it on Guardians, or Shaper. I have done both Uberlab, and Atziri without problems.

As someone who has always had a penchant for plate wearing casters, I wanted to create a build similar to the concept of a D&D Battle Mage, but without the conjuration aspects. I wanted to share my build with other players who enjoy Role-Playing a front line, Caster Tank.

Main spells, Essence Drain / Contagion combo, Regen Totem, Stone Golem, Rejuvenation Totem, Vitality Aura, Champion Ascendancy + permanent Fortify, Enfeeble Aura, and Determination Aura, Enduring Cry.

For PvP: Switch out Empower, and Slower Projectiles Support for Greater Multiple Projectiles, and Bloodmagic.

Added Note: (Essence Drain is a unique spell which lets us regenerate 0.50% of debuff damage as life)

Ascendancy: Champion - take every single point in the Champion tree. Take no points in the northern "taunt" tree, ignore that entire skill-tree.

Jewels are a toss up to personal preference, you can go double dps + max life for a boost in damage, or you can focus on life/dmg/resists, it's entirely up to you.


Pros
Immune to stuns.
Immune to bleeds.
31k Ess Drain dot dps.
780 Life Regen.
51k Armor.
Can facetank a lot of content.
Excellent damage mitigation.
Very tanky and mistake friendly, no surprises or spike damage, boots take care of bleeds.
Satisfying to tank for friends as a caster!

Cons
Low hp in exchange for mitigation/armor, my character has 4.6k hp
Mana starved (102-108) active mana.
Forced to use the Bloodmagic gem for most spells.
Average clear speed.
Expensive gem and gear investment for decent damage and ele resist cap.
Heavily dependent on Life Regen.
Uses two Essence Worm Rings to boost armor to acceptable levels (Grace/Determination).
Heavily dependent on Enfeeble Aura/Fortify/Ess Worm Rings/Ele Resists.
Avoid all (Hexproof maps, maps that affect Life Regen, or negative resist maps)

The main focus of this build is high mitigation, high res (79% all) high armor/phys reduct (89%), with high life regeneration to sustain hits, and The Brass Dome Gladiator plate for flat damage and reduced spike damage. Add in the permanent Fortify from Champion, and the Enfeeble Aura for a significant reduction in damage taken.

    Build changes for: 11/18/2016

    • Life Regeneration reduced from 1k to 780.
    • Rejuvenation Totem has been removed from the build.
    • Added Fortify Support gem, and linked it with Stone Golem.
    • Vitality gem in the Essence Worm Ring has been replaced with Grace.
    • Flat Estimated Physical Damage Reduction increased from 77% to 85%.
    • Two Dex +16 gems now required to meet lvl 20 Grace 155 dex requirement.
    • Divination Distillate Flask has been replaced with Ample Sulfur Flask of Grounding.
    • CWDT, Immortal Call, Enduring Cry, and Molten Shell have been removed from the build.
    • Spell Totem/Wither has been removed from the build, and has been replaced with Abyssal Cry.

    Expected Changes To The Build For Breach League

    The most massive changes (I'm still thinking hard about this) could possibly be a Class/Ascendancy change to Witch/Occultist, it has some really juicy talents that aid this build's dps, such as Void Beacon, whereby "Nearby Enemies have -20% to Chaos Resistance" and +1 Curse, which could allow us to incorperate the Witchfire Brew Flask into our build, and benefit from the damage increases granted by Vulnerability on the flask.

    Due to the planned retroactive (meaning no legacy) nerfs GGG is going to be doing on Essence of Delirium "Inflict Decay", I will be changing from a wand to a dagger, so that we can use Whirling Blades for movement/clear speed, and fortify (If I change the build away from Duelist/Champion); as I can no longer justify the use of Lightning Warp, as it is painfully slow, even with two maxed out movement support gems.

    I believe it was somewhere around 195 chromes using 1G/1B. 0.51610% chance of success.

    I'm still using this build in Standard, It's really fun to play. It's extremely niche and probably not practical for most people, given the specific colors needed on the Brass Dome plate, and I might have to make revisions to the build once the new Expansion is live.

    The theme of a caster tank is always what I wanted to achieve. I'm using whirling blades to get around now instead of lightning warp, so I had to switch to a dagger.
